During my first semester at the University of New Hampshire I was given the wonderful opportunity to write a new work for a middle school ensemble not far from campus. I had the chance to meet with the students, and after discussing with them for a while I started to get an idea of what kind of work I was going to write. Music that, as they said, grooves and moves.

Groovy Oysters was commissioned by the Oyster River Middle School Festival Band.
