The title for this work comes from a walk I took around the University of New Hampshire campus, during a time I was feeling uninspired to compose. I was encouraged to go on a walk when one of my peers said that they were going to do some studying outside. Since the weather was shifting from warm to cold soon, I took this as an opportunity to take some time outside the School of Music building and to enjoy the final moments of the late Summer weather.
During that walk, I glanced over a stream that flowed through a bridge I was standing over, and everytime I look back on that day, that image is still very clear in my mind. After that walk, I felt remotivated to work on this piece and finish it. Though this piece is non-programmatic, and the title has nothing to do with how the music unfolds, the simplicity of that stream did help me get through a time of writer’s block.
